Last week I had the opportunity to visit my parents. I totally used the chance to source inventory for my Poshmark closet. I used to find some good stuff for myself at the thrift stores back when I lived there. Not so much this time. It was hit and miss. Mostly miss. But I worked with what I had.
One of my favorite finds was a CUTE Juicy Couture dress with pockets. Yea, POCKETS. It was hot pink with cream trim. a blouson top with this cool ass open, keyhole back design. Just adorable. I was already writing up the listing description in my head before I even paid for it. As I was I double checking my finds, I notice this beauty had a big stain on the front. Not to be dramatic but it totally looked like blood. I, like almost any other woman, know how to take care of blood. It was $4.99, so I said, ok let’s see what we can do.
I get back to my home and as per my usual post sourcing routine, I start taking my notes. Where I purchased, any sales or coupons used, individual prices, original retail price if I can find it, and I like to get an average price of each item purchased. I;m doing my thing, and I see this stain again. I’m bummed. But hopeful! So I toss all the goodies in the washer and wait. Cycle ends, and this baby is the first one I pull out. No luck. It still looks pretty bad. I decided to go with plan B, Rit dye. Why not? What do I really have to lose, huh?
I’d seen a couple times in the Poshmark groups, sellers taking the chance and dying an item that had some flaw or another. Usually with good results and the disclaimer in the listing that the item had been altered. I bought some navy blue dye and got to work.
I let this dress sit in the dye bath for much longer than instructed. I finally run the cycle and eagerly await my results. Cycle ends, and I fish out the now maroon dress. NO LUCK. The stain actually looks worse! I was ready to toss it in the trash. But I decided to wait to see if maybe it looked better once dried. Again, I wait.
Next morning, its finally dry and still looks like shit. So what do I do? What can I do? I throw it in the back of my closet. I had lots else to list and whatnot. Forgot about it for a couple days…
Today, or rather yesterday if you’re technical, I had to run a few errands. I’m usually the one always in a dress and make up and all coordinated but today I just felt kinda tired and blah. No make up. I needed a shower. And suddenly felt like nothing in my closet fit my mood. I spy that messed up dress. On a whim, as most of my best decisions come about, I decide to cut it. Once again, what do I have to lose? I was about to throw it away anyway? This dress had a waistband and the zipper stopped at the top of the band perfectly. It was easy. Just snip away the blouse part. The part with the damn stain. VOILA! I have a skirt. It is a very short skirt. But whatever, I like it. And the best part, it has pockets! I threw on a Doors tee shirt and those Target slip ons and took off for the day. I felt cute and funky. And a little tough. Something about a black tee. My random ass OOTD.
